About Norwegian Ocean Observation Laboratory

Picture

The Norwegian Ocean Observation Laboratory (OCEANLAB / HAVLAB) is a national multi-infrastructure involving a number of marine research, subsea and sub-seafloor technologies. It represents collaboration between the University of Bergen (UiB), the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), the Norwegian Research Centre AS (NORCE), the Nansen Center (NERSC), the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment (FFI) and Høgskule på Vestlandet (HVL). It was officially opened by Erna Solberg, Norway's Prime Minister, May 2016.

The laboratory is designed to host world-class research infrastructure and facilitate collaborative cross-border technology development for ocean research. Engineers, researcher and students from both industry and universities will work closely together to develop the next generation integrated monitoring technology and methodology.

The OCEANLAB regroups the NorMaR, NorGliders and HIP facilities and the LoVe observatory.
